The orchestra hoists the Jolly Roger on October 22, 2009 for a “Skull and Crossbones!”  opening concert featuring Bellini’s Overture to Il Pirata, music from Gilbert and Sullivan's The Pirates of Penzance, and Hans Zimmer's rousing score from the hit motion picture Pirates of the Caribbean.  Subsequent performances will offer Debussy's La Mer, Mendelssohn's Fair Melusine, Rimsky-Korsakov's Scheherazade, Beethoven's Symphony No. 7, Britten's Four Sea Interludes, and many more masterworks inspired by the sea.  The year's pops concerts will include the fifth edition of Symphony Arlington’s popular "Movie Score Quiz" (featuring movies with nautical themes, of course) and a "Cruisin’ Down Broadway!" program with music from Anything Goes, On the Town, Dames at Sea, and The Unsinkable Molly Brown!
