The last few years, I have become quite the health nut. The last year or so, I have reduced caffeine, and marginalized processed foods, sugar, white flour and caffeine. I am normally very happy with my lean, organic meats and vibrant veggies for lunch. However, my discipline immediately fails away each August when I hear three delicious words: DFW Restaurant Week. <cue my happy dance>

Dearest foodies and friends, my tribe, join me for DFW Restaurant Week presented by Central Market. Best of all, it’s all for a good cause AND someone else gets to do all the dishes afterwards!

This year, four of my favorite Arlington alumni are returning to the 2016 RW ranks. After reviewing their menus, here are my top pics for RW in Arlington:

restaurant506 (August 17-20, 24-27) – This charmingly intimate restaurant, located in the romantic Sanford House Inn & Spa, was winner of Diner’s Choice 2016 for OpenTable. If you seek an escape from the ordinary, this is it! In addition to RW, you should check out their Wine School and regularly hosts special 

After a likely pre-trip to their spa, my dinner picks for the RW menu will be:

  • Appetizer, Gourmet Micro Greens Summer Salad (complete with Foie Gras and a a Sunny Up Quail Egg)
  • Entrée, Pan Roasted Swordfish with a chilled Mediterranean Couscous Salad
  • Dessert, 506 Toasted Coconut Ice Cream

Melting Pot in Arlington Highlands (August 15-September 4) – Let the sweet and savory “Fondue Effect” melt your willpower. And no, no one will judge you if you eat dessert first. Special dieters should note that Melting Pot is part of the Gluten Intolerance Group and the American Vegetarian Association. My picks from their RW menu will be:

  • Appetizer, Garlic Herb Quartet Cheese Fondue served with rustic breads, fresh vegetables, and crisp green apples for dipping
  • Entree, Buffalo Shrimp, French Quarter Teriyaki Sirloin, Honey Orange Chicken Breast, and Wild Mushroom Sacchetti served with Red Bliss Potatoes, white mushroom caps, and broccoli florets
  • Dessert, Snickers Milk Chocolate Fondue served with fresh strawberries, blondies, bananas, pineapple, pound cake, brownies, and Oreo and graham cracker coated marshmallows for dipping.

Piccolo Mondo (August 15-21) – When in Rome, eat like the Romans. Well, the good news is that you can also enjoy authentic Italian cuisine at an Arlington favorite. Zagat doesn’t call this "One of the Top 10 for Food in the Fort Worth area" for nothing! One of the best parts of the meal their amazing live pianist who plays standards, contemporary love songs and other crowd favorites.  My picks from their RW menu will be:

  • Appetizer, Shrimp & Mushrooms in Cream Sauce
  • Entree, Angel Hair Alla Pescatora with fresh clams, shrimp, calamari and fresh tomato sauce
  • Dessert, Spumoni

Cacharel Restaurant & Grand Ballroom (August 12-September 3) – Exquisite food and top notch service are always on the menu, along with a side of “best panoramic view of the Entertainment District.” My picks from their RW menu will be:

  • Duck Confit Turnover with Apples & Dates on a Calvados Sauce
  • Marinated Ahi Tuna Steak served on a bed of Vegetable Julienne
  • Dessert, a no-brainer…their famous Chocolate Soufflé! (It’s like eating a chocolate cloud!)
