Cowboys Owner Jerry Jones Helps Fund Arlington’s New Outdoor Amphitheatre: Levitt Pavilion To Be The Centerpiece Of Downtown Central Plaza

Patti Duoi, Mayor Cluck and Gene Jones take part in the check presentation.

Cowboys owner Jerry Jones and his wife, Gene, joined Mayor Robert Cluck and City Council Members at Arlington City Hall for a check presentation in which The Gene & Jerry Jones Family Arlington Youth Foundation made an $85,000 contribution to The Friends of the Levitt Pavilion.  The donation assists in the creation of a unique outdoor amphitheatre that will present free outdoor concerts beginning in September.  The Levitt Pavilion, already under construction across the street from City Hall, will also provide a public gathering place for a cross-section of the community.  It will also be the dynamic focal point of downtown’s new Founder’s Plaza.

“This is a very special day for Arlington,” announced Mayor Cluck.  “Gene & Jerry Jones said they wanted to be active in Arlington, especially with the youth of our city.  This is only the first check of many which will be presented over the next three decades.  Every year for thirty years they’re going to contribute half-a-million dollars.  Today’s check helps fund the new pavilion which will bring music and arts, free of charge, to local families and kids”.

“It’s a privilege and honor for my family to be here with the citizens of Arlington and their leaders,” Jerry Jones said.  “The Cowboys hold a highly visible position.  Because of the visibility, we find ourselves in the position to take a dollar and leverage it into many thousands of dollars.  We’re directing our visibility to things in the community beyond sports.  The Levitt Pavilion is about music and young people gaining an appreciation for music.”

As part of the 2004 stadium referendum in which citizens voted in favor of supporting construction of a new Dallas Cowboys Stadium in Arlington, the Gene & Jerry Jones Family created a foundation focusing on enriching the lives of Arlington youths.  The foundation has pledged to provide $16.5 million over the next three decades for such programs.  While some observers would assume the Cowboys owner and his family would focus on sports/recreation, the Joneses are happy to support the arts.  more >>
