Back to Dallas Cowboys Football Arlington Hosts “Dallas Cowboys Draft Day Party 2008" Over 3,000 enthusiastic Cowboys fans converged on the Arlington Convention Center for The Dallas Cowboys Draft Day Party 2008. In addition to meeting players, winning prizes, and enjoying interactive exhibits, fans enjoyed a unique opportunity to tour the construction site of the new Dallas Cowboys Stadium. “This is great because the party is literally in the shadow of the new stadium, we’re almost that close.” said Jack Hill, stadium construction manager. “It’s great that the fans can walk see the progress we’re making. They can see the giant arches and the formation of the roof. By taking the buses, they get an even closer look and feel for what it’s going to be like in another year or so. I’ve asked a couple of fans if they’ve seen the new stadium and they say things like “It’s magnificent!” Everybody seems to be real pleased with it.” As for the party itself, Arlington mayor Robert Cluck was overheard proclaiming the event as one of the best that has ever been held at the convention center. Cluck was on-hand to welcome Cowboys fans and players, as well as provide an update on stadium construction. Fans lined-up early for the chance to attend the party which started at 1pm. In fact, the first fans arrived around 3:30am for a chance to be first-in-line for autographs from Cowboys players. “It’s always good to interact with fans because half of the fans don’t know what we look with without our helmets or uniforms,” said Cowboys middle linebacker Bradie James, captain of the defensive unit. “This is an exciting time around Arlington now with the new stadium coming up. It’s good to be here with the fans so they know that we’re grateful for their support.” Veteran players were not the only Cowboys enjoying the event. Twelve months ago, Courtney Brown was anxiously awaiting a call on draft day. That particular weekend, he was drafted by the Cowboys in the 7th round. Fast forward one year, and Brown finds himself as one of the players signing autographs for fans. “I like doing this kind of stuff with fans because I was a fan before,” said Brown. “It’s interesting when I think back to a couple of years ago. I could have been in the seats with these fans, now I’m up here signing autographs. It’s the least we can do to interact and share a smile or a good word. This is a good thing and a good event because we as players enjoy seeing the fans and we get to express our appreciation for them.” Cowboys players who greeted fans and signed autographs included Roy Williams, DeMarcus Ware, Bradie James, Marcus Spears, Chris Canty, Mat McBriar, Nick Folk, Leonard Davis, Andre Gurode, Anthony Spencer, Courtney Brown, Isaiah Stanback, Jason Hatcher, Jay Ratliff, Stephen Bowen, Deon Anderson, James Marten, Ronnie Cruz, Tyler Everett, Marcus Smith, Tearrius George, and Justin Phinisee.
