Smooth, sultry sounds that sail across cultural borders
Alex Cuba is a Latin Grammy/Juno winner and a singer/songwriter who goes beyond tradition with his vast musical vision. His sugarcane-sweet melodies, pop-soul hooks and powerful guitar riffs, relinquish a conventional stereotype that exemplifies much of the Latin music landscape. Born Alexis Puentes in Artemisa, Cuba, Alex was immersed in music at the age of 4, when he joined his father (respected guitarist and teacher, Valentin Puentes), and a group of 24 guitarists in a performance aired on Cuban national TV. Several years, recordings and recognitions later, Alex took home the award for Best New Artist at the 2010 Latin Grammy Awards. He also was nominated for Best Latin Pop Album at the 2011 Grammy Awards, and that same year, took home a BMI Latin Award for his songwriting on Nelly Furtado’s number one Spanish hit, “Manos Al Aire.” His fourth album in 2012 earned him a second Latin Grammy Award, this time as a songwriter, and in 2013, he walked away with a third Latin Grammy for a video. Alex brings to his work songs with lots of melody, groove and vocal harmonies.
