Six Flags

Six Flags Over Texas

No trip to Arlington is complete without a stop at Six Flags Over Texas, one of our most inclusive destinations. Six Flags prides itself in its certification as a Designated Certified Autism Center. All the bright lights and loud noises are fun, but they can also be overwhelming. You’ll find a low sensory zone in the middle of the park reserved for peace and quiet and open to anyone who finds themselves needing a break. They are dedicated to ensuring that everyone can join in on the fun, so they also provide a special harness to wear on rides and rollercoasters if your physical disability prevents you from using the standard harness or if it would risk your safety in any way. Explore the Six Flags Over Texas website to learn more about their accessibility services

Hurricane Harbor

Hurricane Harbor

There’s no better way to beat the heat than a splash at Hurricane Harbor! Hurricane Harbor is also a Designated Certified Autism Center and they have made a great effort to guarantee an inclusive experience for every guest. When requested, they offer a Personal Care Attendant (PCA) to accommodate guests with disabilities who are in need of special support services. Service animals are also welcome to accompany you while you enjoy the park. Discover more about accessibility through the Hurricane Harbor website.

Arlington Museum of Art

Art is for all! And the Arlington Museum of Art agrees. Every exhibit at the museum is completely handicap accessible. They also offer “Sensory Mornings” which happen once every quarter. During this time, the AMA will set aside time to adapt their space with sensory sensitivities in mind so that all individuals can fully engage with the exhibits. Take a look at their website for additional details on accessibility at the Arlington Museum of Art.

Arlington Public Library

Arlington Public Library

Calling all book worms! The Arlington Public Library is a space where everyone in our community can enjoy books and all forms of media. They provide a wide variety of resources including a Braille collection and listening aids like Hearing Loop Technology at the Downtown location. They also provide visuals aids like the video magnifier at the Ron Wright Lake Arlington location. Mark your calendars! Once a month they host SNAP (Supporting Neurodivergent Access to Programming) sensory storytime at the Southeast Branch. This program occurs before the library opens to provide a safe and inclusive space for neurodivergent children and families. Can’t make it to the library? No problem! Through their Books on Wheels program, they offer Homebound Delivery for any Arlington resident who is unable to get to the library on their own.
